It was the first traditional Chinese monastery to be built in Singapore. Since Phor Kark See Monastery is situated at Kong Meng San ("Bright Hill", formerly "Hai Nan Mountain"), it has come to be known as "Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery".

Visited the Kong Meng San Phor Kark See monastry and loved it. It has beautiful architecture and gives you a positive, peaceful feeling. The Bodhi tree, Zen garden with the water stream, giant Buddha statue in the big hall on the top floor are all amazing. I will surely go back.

It was built in the mid-twentieth century, by Zhuan Dao, to spread Buddhism. The monastery also gives sanctuary to priests.
