The 97-year-old, a veteran of over 225 films, passed away early in the morning at Asha Parekh hospital in Vile Parle following a brief illness aggravated by a fracture of his thigh bone.
A.K. Hangal was a veteran Indian actor who played many character roles, mostly positive, in Hindi films. He was born in 1914 in Peshawar, Pakistan, and moved to Bombay after the Partition. He acted in more than 125 films, including Sholay, Lagaan, and Jaagruti.
