Belgravia (/ b ɛ l ˈ ɡ r eɪ v i ə /) is a district in Central London, covering parts of the areas of the City of Westminster and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. Belgravia was known as the 'Five Fields' during the Tudor Period, and became a dangerous place due to highwaymen and robberies.
- Ian Fleming Blue Plaque. You won’t be able to go inside, and there’s no museum here, but 22 Ebury Street has an English Heritage Blue Plaque to mark what was once the home of James Bond creator Ian Fleming.
- The Grenadier. If you’re looking for a pub with some history, you need to go no further than The Grenadier. Named after the type of soldier first seen in the 17 Century, the site of this pub was once a soldiers’ barracks and the pub itself was actually the officers’ mess.
- Walk the Embassies. Walk the streets of Belgravia and count the flags you see. You likely won’t be able to go in if you’re not a citizen of that particular country, but Belgravia is home to over a dozen embassies, consulates, and other foreign governmental buildings.
- Afternoon Tea at the Goring. Afternoon Tea is a British institution, and the Goring Hotel presents that cultural experience with award-winning flair. With prices ranging from 49 to £69, you can enjoy some the tastiest scones, sandwiches, and cakes along with Bollinger champagne.
- Eccleston Yards. Belgravia is transforming. Ecclestone Yards is a former industrial yard near to Victoria station, a chic-cy little lair of former warehouses transformed into a cultural centre, full of cafes and bars (plus gyms and yoga studios so you can work it off afterwards).
- Knightsbridge Shopping. From Harvey Nicks to Harrods, Knightsbridge is a world-class shopping destination with a wide and wonderful selection of stylish shopping options, although try not to get run over by the gold plated Lamborghinis which rev up and roar down in the area.
- Cadogan Hall. How do you get to Cadogan Hall? Practice etc etc etc. One of London’s top live music venues, Cadogan Hall is home to the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (not literally – they leave at night) and is a historic hall in the heart of Chelsea dating back to 1907 when it first opened a church (it didn’t become an actual concert hall until 2004).
