Apr 9, 2023 · Long Island is the southeasternmost part of New York (NY), United States, situated in the Atlantic Ocean. It extends east-northeastward just about parallel to the Connecticut coastline. It has Long Island Sound on the north, the Atlantic Ocean on its east and south, and the East River and New York Bay and harbor on its west.
Long Island stretches eastward from New York City in the Metro New York region. The island is approximately 115 mi (185 km) long from Brooklyn and Queens at the western end, to Montauk at the easternmost point. At its widest, the island is about 20 mi (32 km) from north to south.
