    Kang Daniel (Korean: 강다니엘, Japanese: カンダニエル; or Daniel) is a South Korean singer, lyricist and actor under his own label, KONNECT Entertainment. He is a former member of the project boy group Wanna One.

    As a soloist, he also goes by the name Daniel K. He made his solo debut on July 25, 2019 with his first special album Color On Me.

    2017-2018: Produce 101 Season 2, Wanna One

    In April 2017, Kang Daniel was revealed to be a contestant in the reality survival show Produce 101 Season 2 representing MMO Entertainment. In the finale, he finished in 1st place and subsequently became the center of Wanna One. Wanna One debuted on August 7, 2017 with 1X1=1 (To Be One). The group released their final album 1¹¹=1 (Power of Destiny) on November 19, 2018 and concluded activities on December 31.

    2019: New agencies, solo debut with Color On Me, "Touchin'"

    On January 21, 2019, through a live broadcast on Instagram, Kang Daniel shared that he might be debuting in April. Following Wanna One's disbandment on February 1, Daniel transferred from MMO to LM Entertainment and opened various SNS accounts. However, on March 3, news outlet Market News reported that Kang Daniel had asked to terminate his contract. LM Entertainment explained that it was a request to modify clauses in the contract and not to terminate it. Kang Daniel revealed that it all started when he asked access to his SNS accounts so he could personally post updates. On March 21, he applied for the suspension of his exclusive contract with LM Entertainment because the agency signed joint business contracts that sell his exclusive contract rights to third parties without his consent. LM Entertainment denied all claims. The questioning was revealed to take place on April 5 at 2 p.m. KST at the Seoul Central District Court but was postponed to April 24. On May 10, the court accepted Kang Daniel's request to terminate his contract. LM Entertainment announced they plan to appeal the decision. The second court questioning was set to June 12 by the Seoul Central District Court. On June 10, he founded his own agency known, KONNECT Entertainment, ahead of his solo debut. The agency met with music distributor Kakao M on June 20. On June 23, Kang Daniel posted several photos on his Instagram account, hinting at his debut, and on June 27, KONNECT Entertainment announced that he will debut in late July. On July 11, KONNECT launched a new website with a acountdown for July 12. That day, Kang Daniel revealed a first teaser for his solo debut album, Color On Me, scheduled for July 25, 2019. New SNS accounts were launched on July 18 and 23. On July 11, LM Entertainment's appeal was rejected by the court. LM decided to appeal to the Seoul High Court on July 17. On September 27, LM Entertainment's objection to the injunction was confirmed to have been canceled. On November 15, KONNECT Entertainment announced that Kang Daniel would be releasing his first digital single, "Touchin'", on November 25.

    On February 11, 2020, KONNECT Entertainment confirmed that Kang Daniel is preparing for a comeback. On March 9, he announced that he will be returning on March 24 with his first mini album Cyan. On March 17, it was announced that Kang Daniel and Zico will be participating in the 2020 Pepsi X Global K-pop Project. The digital single "For The Love of Korea" was released on April 23. On July 1, Sports DongA reported that Kang Daniel plans to release a new song featuring Simon Dominic on July 25 to celebrate the first anniversary of his solo debut. On July 5, Kang Daniel released a teaser for his second mini album Magenta scheduled for release on August 3, with the pre-release single "Waves" being released on July 27.

    Relationship

    On August 5, 2019, local news source Dispatch reported that he and TWICE's Jihyo were dating. Later that day, the reports were confirmed by both agencies.     On December 4, 2019, KONNECT Entertainment released a statement stating that Daniel visited the hospital due to poor health caused by a weak immune system and psychological anxiety starting from the first half of the year. He was then diagnosed with depression and panic disorder after a detailed examination and treats it through psychotherapy and medication. As he had been expressing more severe symptoms of anxiety, he will be taking a temporary break from activities to focus on his recovery. On February 10, 2020, KONNECT announced that he has been fully recovered and that he would resume scheduled activities.
