William 'Bill' Church (born 9 December 1946) started out playing bass in a band called Sawbuck in 1969. As the band was beginning to record their first album, Ronnie Montrose and Church left Sawbuck to join Van Morrison on his album Tupelo Honey.
Oct 6, 2023 · It also helped launch bassist Bill “The Electric” Church’s career. Church’s previous stints as a sideman for Van Morrison and member of Sawbuck got his foot in the door, but Montrose made every member of the talented quartet stars in the early ’70s.
