Campuses - Horace Mann School. Campuses. The Nursery Division is located in a landmark building on Manhattan ’s Upper East Side that was originally the carriage house of the Andrew Carnegie estate. The original three-story structure was renovated and expanded to six floors in 1961 and became the New York School for Nursery Years.
Horace Mann has a strong commitment to providing Financial Aid to students who could not otherwise attend. All Financial Aid is based on need; no merit scholarships are awarded. For the 2023-2024 academic year, 15% of the students receive more than $14,000,000 in Financial Aid. Admission to Horace Mann is need-blind.
The School’s founding fathers named the school after Horace Mann (1796-1859). Horace Mann was a lawyer who served in the Massachusetts State Legislature. He was the first Secretary of the Massachusetts Board of Education, a Member of the United States House of Representatives, and President of Antioch College.
