The Ministry of Law (MinLaw) is proposing amendments to the Evidence Act (EA), which provides the framework of rules for the types of evidence that can be admitted as evidence during court proceedings. The amendments are to ensure the Act’s continued relevance.

This Act sets out the State rules of evidence. Generally speaking, the Act applies to proceedings in State courts and before other persons or bodies required to apply the laws of evidence (see section 4).
The admissibility of electronic records as evidence in Singapore courts is governed by the Evidence Act (Cap 97) (‘the Act’). Section 116A of the Act contains certain presumptions, which a party seeking to use electronic records as evidence in court may rely on.
