    Merrill De Maris (February 26, 1898 - December 31, 1948) was an American author of a comic strips and cartoon gagman for Walt Disney. He wrote the 1942 comic strip adaptation of Disney's film Bambi.

    Merrill De Maris was born on February 26, 1898 in New Jersey, United States of America. On November 28, 1932, he started working for Walt Disney. His exact role within Walt Disney Studios varied as he often traded jobs with Ted Osborne, with one of them writing the script for comic strips while the other wrote stories for cartoons. De Maris thus got the chance to work on both cartoons and comic strips during his time with Disney. In 1942, he wrote the comic strip adaptation to the film Bambi.

    De Maris quit working for Disney in 1943 due to "a heart situation, and a problem with nervous exhaustion." He then pursued a career as a forest ranger, though he would instead become a professional gardener. He died on December 31, 1948. The cause of his death is unclear. Some sources, such as his former co-worker Floyd Gottfredson, said that he passed of pneumonia, while other sources pointed to him committing suicide.
