Apr 13, 2021 · Wolff’s first big break came in 1997, when he attended a Radical Faerie gathering in Tennessee, celebrating queer consciousness, and met Barry Shils, director of Wigstock: The Movie, a 1995 documentary about the largest drag performance festival. Shils was then directing episodes of the HBO documentary series Real Sex.
Barry Shils (1957) once moved to New York to become a painter and sculptor. After studying fine arts & drama at Yale, he decided to make films. After his first 'underground' film he was given a grant by a human-rights organisation to make a documentary about young offenders.
