Peter John Roach (born 30 June 1943) is a British retired phonetician. He taught at the Universities of Leeds and Reading, and is best known for his work on the pronunciation of British English. [1] Education. Peter Roach studied Classics at the Priory Grammar School for Boys, Shrewsbury.

I was Head of the School of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies for four years. My main interest now is in the phonetics of English, where my publications include English Phonetics and Phonology and the Cambridge English Pronouncing Dictionary, both published by Cambridge University Press.
