James Springer White (August 4, 1821 – August 6, 1881), also known as Elder White, was a co-founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and husband of Ellen G. White.
James Springer White (1821–1881) was a key figure in the Seventh-day Adventist Church and the husband of Ellen G. White. He played an active part in the Millerite Movement, waiting for Jesus to return in 1844.
White was the publisher of the first periodical issued by Seventh-day Adventists, Present Truth (1849); the first editor of the Review and Herald (1850), the Youth’s Instructor (1852), also the Signs of the Times (1874). He was president of the General Conference between 1865-1967, 1869-1871, and 1874-1880.
