Vernon Stallings is a janitor at the Santa Barbara Space Center whom Shawn and Gus meet while solving the Bryant Vallery case. Shawn refers to him as a "creepy janitor" and when Vernon tries to help him as he attempts to host the planetarium show Shawn is only annoyed that he's standing so close to him. When Vernon leaves the room, Shawn follows him and spots him stealing from someone's locker.

Shawn's experiences with Vernon are more positive when he and Gus are trying to break into the center's observatory and Vernon circumvents the lock for them. He tells our duo that "Big Bad Bryant" took away his key to the observatory after several items went missing, including mail. Vernon admits that he's read it and tells Shawn and Gus that Bryant became "quite a jerk," as he was trying to dissolve his partnership with fellow astronomer Hugo Rainier and actively applying for other, better jobs. He says that Hugo was always nice to Bryant and "the only one around here nice to me," and known for bringing his colleagues coffee. He explains how the logbooks work and warns them they should be quick in their snooping as Hugo should be about to arrive. When Shawn and Gus leave, Vernon can be seen helping Hugo with a locked case.
