He also collaborated on many records with Terry Melcher (his bandmate in Bruce & Terry, the Rip Chords, and California Music) and composed the 1975 Barry Manilow hit, "I Write the Songs". [1]

  4. He’s a real Beach Boy, but I agree with you that he never fully fit in. His songs sound like Bruce Johnston songs, not Beach Boys songs. He barely co-wrote with other members. He also missed arguably the two biggest eras of the band pre-California Girls and during the Endless Summer heyday.
