Garbage is a Scottish-American rock band formed in 1993 in Madison, Wisconsin. The band's line-up consisting of Scottish singer Shirley Manson (vocals) and American musicians Duke Erikson (guitar, bass, keyboards), Steve Marker (guitar, keyboards), and Butch Vig (drums, production) has remained unchanged since its inception.
In my opinion, this song is about unrequited love. It's very haunting and melancholic. It's one of the saddest songs I've ever heard. This first verse shows the distinct juxtaposition of her emotions, the "red hot kitchen/ketchup" lyric representative of her burning desire for the object of her affections.
