Dec 17, 2022 · When Danish expatriate Charlotte Cain started lifestyle retail pop-up Boutique Fairs in 2002, it was a modest event at Fort Canning Park that comprised 17 vendors, including herself. The avid potter first arrived in Singapore in 1989 as a trailing spouse.
IN 2002, long before pop-ups became part of the current vernacular, Danish expatriate Charlotte Cain and two friends started something they simply called - a fair. They took up a room at Fort Canning Centre where Mrs Cain, 59, an active potter, wanted to sell her ceramics and meet her customers.
Boutiques began in 2002 as a shopping event aimed at promoting quality, design-led merchandise. The fair was established and continues to be directed by Charlotte Cain, who has made Singapore her home since moving here in 1989.
