Alessandro Tasca, nephew of Giuseppe Lampedusa of The Leopard, had first met Welles in 1947 when he came to Europe to film Cagliostro; Tasca having spent a long time in the United States before the war, and working in Rome with Ezra Pound on his broadcasts during the war (see above).
Assisting with production was Prince Alessandro Tasca di Cutò, a Sicilian aristocrat who was cousin of Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, author of The Leopard. [3] . Nino Rota composed the musical score. The film's actors were mostly dubbed in post-production at the Gate Studios in Elstree.
