  2. Samuel H. Stiefel (1897-1958) was born in the New Jersey farming community of Norma, where his parents had settled from Russia some ten years prior. The Stiefel family moved to Philadelphia when Samuel was ten years old, and he remained in the city for the rest of his life.

  6. In April 1949 Rooney announced he would make four films in partnership with producer Sam Stiefel of which Big Wheel would be the first, directed by Edward Ludwig based on a story by Robert Smith. It would be followed by Buckaroo based on an idea by Rooney, and Quicksand .
