Guo Wenjing is a contemporary Chinese composer. Unlike many Chinese composers who have studied and lived in other countries, he has only studied in Beijing. He has lived and worked in his home country for nearly his entire life with the exception of a short period of time living in New York.

Guo Wenjing was born on 1 February 1956, in Chongqing, Sichuan Province, in the south-west of China, where his parents worked at the local hospital. His family originated from a poor, rural setting in northern China.
At home, Guo Wenjing has been honored among the Top China Hundred Outstanding Artists. The former head of the composition department of the Central Conservatory, where he still remains on the faculty, Guo maintains a busy schedule as composer and educator.
