Steven Lee Cropper (born October 21, 1941), [1] sometimes known as " The Colonel ", is an American guitarist, songwriter and record producer. He is the guitarist of the Stax Records house band, Booker T. & the M.G.'s, which backed artists such as Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Carla Thomas, Rufus Thomas and Johnnie Taylor.
The All-Stars were a dream aggregation of of Levon Helm's favourite musicians, including names like Mac Rebennack (aka Dr. John), Paul Butterfield, Booker T. Jones, Donald "Duck" Dunn, Steve Cropper, Tom Malone, Alan Rubin and the two old-timers Henry Glover and Fred Carter from the Hawks-period.

Nov 14, 2013 · Shortly thereafter Cropper and Dunn joined Levon Helm’s RCO All-Stars and then received a call from John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd which resulted in the formation of the Blues Brothers Band.
With the breakup of the Band in its original form, Helm began working on a solo-ensemble album, Levon Helm & the RCO All-Stars, with Paul Butterfield, Fred Carter, Jr., Emmeretta Marks, Howard Johnson, Steve Cropper, Donald "Duck" Dunn, Booker T. Jones, and others.
