BIOGRAPHY. Martin Betz was born in Berlin, Germany in 1975. He grew up in the large social housing estate of Märkisches Viertel in the borough of Reinickendorf where he was raised by his two hard-working parents and shared a three bedroom apartment with his three other siblings.

Nach Abitur am Uhland-Gymnasium Tübingen und Zivildienst studierte er Cembalo bei Bradford Tracey, Bob van Asperen und Mitzi Meyerson. Betz ist Sohn des Theologen Otto Betz und Vetter des Hirnforschers Heinrich Betz. Er spielt zwei Cembali aus der Werkstatt von William Jurgenson, deren kleineres eine einzigartige Tastatur aufweist:Um die mitteltönige Stimmung universal ausführen zu können, verfügt es über 19 Tasten pro Oktave.
