Step One: Wrap the yarn around your finger
Wrap the yarn around your index finger like you are making an “X”, holding the working yarn in the back.
Step Two: Insert hook under first loop
Slip your hook between the first loop and your finger and get ready to pull the second loop through.
Step Three: Pull up second loop
Pull up the second loop on your finger, which is the working yarn. Be sure you don’t pull up the tail end!

I am constantly being asked what the magic ring (or magic circle) is in crochet, or how do you make a crochet magic circle?, so I decided to put together an easy step-by-step picture tutorial to teach you how to crochet the magic ring (also called the magic circle, or magic loop)!
A magic ring is the ideal way to start crocheting in the round. You start crocheting over an adjustable loop and finally pull the loop tight when you have finished the required number of stitches. The advantage of this method is that there's no hole left in the middle of your starting round.
