Dan Fogelberg. Daniel Grayling Fogelberg [1] (August 13, 1951 – December 16, 2007) was an American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He is primarily known for his 1980s soft rock hits, including "Longer" (1980), "Same Old Lang Syne" (1981), and "Leader of the Band" (1982).
Born to Rock and Roll is a compilation album by the ex-Byrds frontman Roger McGuinn, released on Columbia Records in August 1991. It was issued following the success of McGuinn's comeback solo album Back from Rio earlier that same year.

The youngest of three sons, Dan was born in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Margaret (née Irvine), a classically-trained pianist, and Lawrence Peter Fogelberg, a high school band director, who spent most of his career at Peoria Woodruff High School and Pekin High School.
Starting out in local bands playing rock and roll, Fogelberg found his passion on acoustic guitar. He left his studies at the University of Illinois and headed for the West Coast, finding inspiration during a week in Colorado before moving on and securing a recording contract.
