Mike Leigh is an English film and theatre director, screenwriter and playwright. He studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) and further at the Camberwell School of Art, the Central School of Art and Design and the London School of Film Technique.

His tragicomic portraits of working-class lives have seen him pick up a Palme d’Or, a Golden Lion, three BAFTA wins and seven Oscar nominations. He began his career on the stage, making his feature debut with the aptly titled Bleak Moments in 1971.
