Eille Norwood (born Anthony Edward Brett; 11 October 1861 – 24 December 1948) was an English stage actor, director, and playwright best known today for playing Sherlock Holmes in a series of silent films.

Jun 10, 2021 · A 1920s silent Sherlock Holmes film series, starring Eille Norwood as the famous sleuth, will be fully restored in a major new project announced today, 100 years since the first serial was originally screened.
The films were directed by Maurice Elvey and then 59-year-old actor Eille Norwood was chosen to portray Sherlock Holmes, with Hubert Willis cast as Dr Watson. Norwood was obsessed with portraying Holmes true to the written stories.
