Dame Madge Kendal DBE (born Margaret Shafto Robertson; 15 March 1848 – 14 September 1935) was an English actress of the Victorian and Edwardian eras, best known for her roles in Shakespeare and English comedies.
Born into one of England's oldest theatrical families in 1848, Madge Kendal was the daughter of William Robertson, an actor and theater manager, and Margherita Marinus Robertson, a Scandinavian-born actress who also distinguished herself by giving birth to 22 children, Madge being the last.
