John Le Mesurier (/ l ə ˈ m ɛ ʒ ə r ə /, born John Elton Le Mesurier Halliley; 5 April 1912 – 15 November 1983) was an English actor. He is probably best remembered for his comedic role as Sergeant Arthur Wilson in the BBC television situation comedy Dad's Army (1968–1977).
John Le Mesurier (1912-1983) was a versatile actor who appeared in films, TV shows and radio plays. He is best known for his role as Sgt. Wilson in Dad's Army, and for playing Bilbo Baggins in the BBC radio adaptation of The Lord of the Rings.
