May 30, 2020 · Armida was Rossini’s first opera performed at the newly rebuilt Teatro San Carlo, destroyed by fire the year before. To mark the occasion, the work was suitably spectacular. The cast featured the soprano Isabella Colbran in one of her most vocally challenging roles as the Saracen sorceress, and no fewer than four tenors.
