Squire Maugridge Boone Jr. (October 5, 1744 – August 5, 1815) was an American frontiersman, longhunter, soldier, city planner, politician, land locator, judge, politician, gunsmith, miller, and younger brother of Daniel Boone. In 1780, he founded the first settlement in Shelby County, Kentucky.
Squire Boone Sr. had first joined the Pennsylvania Quaker’s Abington Meeting then transferred to the North Wales Gwynedd Meeting, settling in Chalfont, New Brittain Twp. of Philadelphia Co. to farm and ply his skills as blacksmith and weaver. Chalfont was originally called Butler’s Mill. As tenant, he built a small house.
His father, Squire Boone (1696–1765), immigrated to colonial Pennsylvania from the small town of Bradninch, England, sometime around 1712. Squire, a weaver and blacksmith, married Sarah Morgan (1700–1777), whose family were Quakers from Wales.
