From the earliest incarnation of 'C. Vaux & Sons' in 1837 right through to the 1990's, the brewery was an important part of city life in Sunderland until its closure in 1999. Having relaunched this iconic brand in 2019 we opened our Monk Street brewery & taproom in 2021.

Vaux Breweries Ltd, Castle Street Brewery, Sunderland, Tyne & Wear. Founded by Cuthbert Vaux 1837 at Matlock Street Brewery. Moved to Castle Street 1875. Registered 1896 as C.Vaux & Sons Ltd. It became Associated Breweries Ltd in 1927. Name changed to Vaux Breweries Ltd in 1973.
