It began life as “Politoys” in the 1960s, but in 1970 it is believed the company changed its name to Polistil – possibly to avoid confusion with the UK toy manufacturer “Palitoy”.

Politoys, later renamed Polistil, was an Italian brand of diecast metal and plastic toy models. Models were built in the period ranging from the early '60s to the early '90s when the brand went out of business. Models were almost all built in Italy, including those built under the Tonka brand.
