Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM; Vietnamese: Đại học Quốc gia Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh) is a public research university system in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. VNU-HCM is one of two Vietnam's national universities, the other one being Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
As the first modern university established and one of the two national universities in Vietnam, VNU has undergone various stages of development: the University of Indochina established on 16 May, 1906; Vietnam National University (November, 1945); the University of Hanoi (June, 1956).

The university system has 10 member universities and faculties. VNU is one of two Vietnam's national universities, the other one being Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City.
Developing into an interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary university, meeting the basic criteria of a research and innovative university; by 2025, VNU is expected to be in Asia’s Top 100 universities or in the world’s Top 500 leading universities; and to be listed in the world’s Top 300 leading universities by 2030.
On October 12, 2022, the Times Higher Education announced the results of THE World University Rankings 2023 (THE WUR 2023). Accordingly, Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU) featured in Group 1000 – 1200 globally of 1,799 ranked universities.
