The Institute of Asian and African Countries (Russian: Институт стран Азии и Африки) at Lomonosov Moscow State University was founded in 1956 as the Institute of Oriental Languages and was renamed to the Institute of Asian and African Countries in 1972. It is a Russian Centre for Oriental Studies.

Institute of Asian and African Studies was first opened in 1956 and now is the leading among the Oriental Studies institutions in Russia. The Institute teaches more than 40 languages of Asian and African countries (before 1972 the Institute was named Institute of Oriental Languages).

At present, the FAAS is one of the world’s major centres for the study and teaching of languages, cultures, international relations, economics, religions and history of the Asian and African Countries. 170 highly qualified specialists including 1 academician, 33 professors and 56 associate professors are on the teaching staff of the Faculty.
