Walter Matthau plays an old man who moves in with a pregnant teenager in Santa Barbara, while his son and daughter-in-law want to send him to a retirement village. Roger Ebert criticizes the film for its lack of realism, subtlety and humor, and praises Michel Simon's performance in "The Two of Us".

Befriending Erica (Deborah Winters), a young pregnant woman, Kotch begins to finds new meaning in life as he helps her prepare to welcome her baby into the world.
