Viridiana (pronounced [biɾiˈðjana]) is a 1961 Spanish-Mexican comedy-drama film directed by Luis Buñuel and produced by Gustavo Alatriste. It is loosely based on the 1895 novel Halma by Benito Pérez Galdós .
