Our Water Policy in a Nutshell. ENSURING WATER SUPPLY FOR ALL. Singapore depends on four sources for its water supply – water from local catchment, imported water, high-grade reclaimed water known as NEWater and desalinated water.
Organised by PUB, Singapore's National Water Agency and Singapore's Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, SIWW flagship programmes include the Lee Kuan Yew Water Prize, Leaders Roundtable and Summit, Water Convention, Water Expo, Thematic and Business Forums and Technical Site Visits.
The blended water undergoes naturalisation and further treatment in conventional waterworks to create drinking water. On 9 August 2002, PUB launched NEWater to the Singaporean public when 60,000 people toasted the nation’s birthday at the National Day Parade with bottles of NEWater.
Mar 20, 2024 · Water demand in Singapore is currently about 440 million gallons a day (mgd), which is enough to fill 800 Olympic-sized swimming pools. By 2065, Singapore's total water demand could almost double, with the non-domestic sector accounting for about 60%.
The latter is tightly controlled in order to prevent any pollution of water resources through sewage, sullage or other sources of pollution. The management of water supply, sanitation and stormwater drainage is managed by a single agency, the Public Utilities Board, in an integrated and coordinated manner.
