Orwell’s chilling dystopia made a deep impression on readers, and his ideas entered mainstream culture in a way achieved by very few books. The novel invented concepts such as Big Brother and the Thought Police, which remain instantly recognizable in the 21st century.

Winston Smith, his chin nuzzled into his breast in an effort to escape the vile wind, slipped quickly through the glass doors of Victory Mansions, though not quickly enough to prevent a swirl of gritty dust from entering along with him.
As short a time ago as February, the Ministry of Plenty had issued a promise (a 'categorical pledge' were the official words) that there would be no reduction of the chocolate ration during 1984. Actually, as Winston was aware, the chocolate ration was to be reduced from thirty grammes to twenty at the end of the present week.
Based on Orwell's classic novel, 1984 depicts a dystopian society where a man loses his identity and defies Big Brother. Critics and audiences love it.
