To accomplish this, Thornton asks Jim to test the first balloon gondola designed to carry a man twenty miles up into the "threshold of space," the first step toward putting a man into space. Before accepting the assignment, Jim confers with his fiancée, Pat Lange, who also works in the Air Force program.

I saw this film in 1959 and again in the 1970's and it reminded me how much research and testing went into the space program before John Glenn made his historic entry into space. This film is a must for younger people to see what went on before they were born and how the space program began.
