Dad Rudd, M.P. is a 1940 comedy that was the last of four films made by Ken G. Hall starring Bert Bailey as Dad Rudd. It was the last feature film directed by Hall prior to the war and the last made by Cinesound Productions, Bert Bailey and Frank Harvey.
A delegation of local farmers asks Dad Rudd (Bert Bailey) to stand for the local seat, after the death of the sitting member. Dad is reluctant, until he learns that Henry Webster, a big landowner, wants to limit the size of the dam now under construction.
Young Jim Webster is in love with Ann Rudd, but their families are at loggerheads. Jim's father is the local member of parliament and is using his influence to prevent improvements to a new dam. Dad Rudd knows that the dam is vital to the welfare of small farmers in the district and decides to fight Webster in the coming elections.
Synopsis. The Rudds are modernising the farm, with unpredictable results. Dad Rudd (Bert Bailey) sets off to buy a new car and returns with an ancient horse-drawn fire-engine. Dave (Fred MacDonald) installs a new gas-powered stove for Mum (Connie Martyn), but almost blows the kitchen apart.
