Mar 29, 2022 · Being a pastor’s child doesn’t make me any holier. It only makes me more acutely aware that I am set apart for Him. One good thing that has come from people’s expectations of a “Pastor’s Kid” is that it reminds me to think and behave as a Christian, and not as one of the world (Romans 12:2).
- Pastors are people, too. There seems a resilient misconception that pastors are less prone than the rest of us to things like exhaustion, temptation, frustration, and loneliness.
- Church attendance doesn’t immunize against sin and unbelief. But requiring it doesn’t automatically turn kids into resentful prodigals. Here are two seemingly omnipresent misconceptions: (1) kids will be fine if they’re in church regularly, but (2) requiring them to come with you will foment rebellion.
- PKs don’t need to see and know everything about the church that Dad sees and knows. This is one thing my dad wishes he’d done differently. Seasoned saints are more equipped to handle the frustrating parts of church government, business, or discipline than teens are.
- The most freeing thing PKs can feel is that Dad and Mom don’t view them as PKs. Hearing my dad encourage me, as I approached high-school graduation, that he wanted to me to follow God’s call on my life—and that the call didn’t need to be ministry—was crucial.

I am a Pastor’s Kid: The work that took my dad away. My father pastored a family church for many years before he was made the chairman of the Singapore Centre for Global Missions (SCGM) to lead the local conversation on mission work.
In this raw true story of faith and redemption, college student, Riley, runs from her painful past of abuse and religious hypocrisy. However, God has other plans for Riley when an unforeseen circumstance compels her to confront the very source of her anguish – her estranged mother.
