Oliver! is a 1968 British period musical drama film based on Lionel Bart's 1960 stage musical of the same name, itself an adaptation of Charles Dickens's 1838 novel Oliver Twist.

The Academy Award winning Oliver! (1968) was not the first-ever film version of the famous Charles Dickens novel, Oliver Twist. There were at least seven previous versions captured on film, beginning with Pathe's 1909 version and ending with David Lean's version in 1948. Twenty years passed before the story hit the silver screen again.
