That's a heartening sign, because "Whirlpool" is a genuinely sickening film. It has to do with various varieties of sex, yes, but its main appeal seems to be its violence. The ads tell us "she died with her boots on -- and not much else," and that's a sign of the times.
José Ramón Larraz's Whirlpool is a dark and violent work that leaves a bleak impression. A lot of it plays out as a softcore sex thriller, with extended sex scenes and a lot of nudity. Set at a time of sexual liberation, Whirlpool is a movie filled with lust and hunger.
