Complicity (or Retribution in the US market) is a 2000 film based on the 1993 novel Complicity by Iain Banks. The screenplay was written by Bryan Elsley, and directed by Gavin Millar. Both had previously adapted Banks's The Crow Road into a TV serial. The film marked the debut of Richard Madden.
Complicity appears to have been overlooked by most theatres, distributors, award-givers and reviewers. A shame really, much worse British films have travelled abroad in recent years. Complicity is fraught, character-driven, quirky, kinky and pays off at the end.

May 6, 2000 · Overview. Local journalist, Cameron Colley writes articles that are idealistic, from the viewpoint of the underdog. A twisted serial killer seems to have some motives. His brutal murders are also committed on behalf of the underdog. The stories begin to merge and Cameron find himself inextricably and inextricably implicated by the brutal killer.
Tipped off by a source known only as Mr. Archer, a crime journalist (Jonny Lee Miller) investigates the strange deaths of several men.
