The play was produced throughout the world including Germany – where Conrad Veidt was in the cast – and France (which changed the location to an island off Madagascar).

William Kell, the keeper of a lighthouse a lonely stretch of coastline in New Zealand, marries cabaret dancer Eileen. His young wife goes on to have an affair with Henry Cass, the handsome assistant. Later on she begins to flirt with a stranger from a wreckage. A chain of events is set in motion.
Stilted melodrama about the frustrations of a lighthouse keeper's wife stationed off the coast of New Zealand. Pioneering German-born director E.A. Dupont manages some expressionistic flourishes, but the film is sank by its hackneyed plot and by a theatrical style of acting typical of early British talkies. 1 like.
