Released in the early days of the Blaxploitation craze and promoted as "YOUR kind of Black film," Melinda is a far more hard-bitten and jaded crime film than the vague sexy drama promised by the film's lurid poster art depicting a scantily-clad woman posed beneath a man in a martial arts pose.
A slick, smooth-talking, womanizing young black DJ falls hard for an enigmatic woman he's just met. Things take a turn for the worse, though, when she is found dead in his apartment. It turns out that she was killed by the local mob, which is trying to frame him for the crime.

Melinda is a nifty blaxploitation thriller, following Calvin Lockhart’s narcissistic DJ as he becomes embroiled in murder and conspiracy. Lockhart is awesome in role, nailing the transformation from womanizing jerk into seething anxious noir antihero smashing and scheming through the underworld.
