John Lewis Nelson (June 29, 1916 – August 25, 2001), also known as his stage name Prince Rogers, was an American jazz musician and songwriter. He was the father of musicians Prince and Tyka Nelson and a credited co-writer on some of his son's songs.

Prince released a sequel to Purple Rain in 1990 called Graffiti Bridge, a soundtrack album accompanied this movie entitled, Graffiti Bridge. The film did terrible in box-office and was nominated for several Razzie awards. Many people saw the sound-track album, as the high point of the film.

Mar 5, 2018 · John L. Nelson would have been 102 this year. He was born in Webster Parish, Louisiana, where he taught himself to play piano and to read music. Although he made money playing jazz in burlesque clubs and bars (under the name Prince Rogers), it wasn’t a lasting career.
