Mar 25, 1997 · Harold Melvin was a singer and bandleader who helped Teddy Pendergrass become a lead singer on the hits “The Love I Lost” and “If You Don’t Know Me By Now.” He died of a stroke in 1997 after two strokes that left him bedridden and unable to speak.
