Alexandre Antônio Tombini (born December 9, 1963) is a Brazilian economist. He was President of the Central Bank of Brazil until June 13, 2016, when he was replaced by Ilan Goldfajn. Since September 2019 he is Chief Representative for the Americas, based in Mexico City, of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS).
Alexandre Tombini became Chief Representative of the BIS Office for the Americas on 1 September 2019. Before joining the BIS, he was Executive Director of the Board at the International Monetary Fund for Brazil, Cabo Verde, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guyana, Haiti, Nicaragua, Panama, Suriname, Timor-Leste and Trinidad and Tobago.
Alexandre Tombini is the Chief Representative of the BIS Office for the Americas since 2019. He has a PhD in economics and was the Governor of the Central Bank of Brazil and a Board member of the BIS.
