Richard Thomalla (German:; 23 October 1903 – 12 May 1945) was a German war criminal and SS commander of Nazi Germany. A civil engineer by profession, he was head of the SS Central Building Administration at Lublin reservation in occupied Poland.
Richard Thomalla was a construction expert for Aktion Reinhardt, the Nazi operation to exterminate Jews in occupied Poland. He supervised the building of Belzec, Sobibor and Treblinka death camps, and was executed by the Soviets in 1945.
Construction of the camp began in March 1942 after the extermination operations in Belzec had already started. Richard Thomalla, head of the Central Building Administration in Lublin, was in charge of its construction.
