Martha Parke Custis Peter (December 31, 1777 – July 13, 1854) [1] was a granddaughter of Martha Dandridge Washington and a step-granddaughter of George Washington . Early life. Martha Parke Custis was born on December 31, 1777 [1] [2] in the Blue Room at Mount Vernon. [3] .
In December, 1799, George Washington died following a sudden illness. To his second step-granddaughter, Martha Peter, he left land as well as money, which the Peters used to purchase a large city block in Georgetown. It was there that they built their own beautiful and spacious home, named Tudor Place.
In September of 1793, Martha Parke Custis and her sister accompanied George Washington to the ceremony for the laying of the Capitol Building’s cornerstone. In 1795 Martha Custis married Thomas Peter. Thomas Peter was the eldest son of Robert Peter.
